    Origami Restaurant, Hotel Nikko Jakarta,
Jl. MH Thamrin 59, Jakarta 10350

Hikaru Iwai, the adviser chef for Hotel Nikko, is a sushi and tempura expert who has previously worked at both the Japanese Consulate in Scotland and the Japanese Embassy in Cuba. He aims to provide a harmony and balance between the basic five flavors: sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy in all his dishes. Chef Hikaru Iwai will teach you how to make tasteful and artful cuisines.

    The chosen Japanese dishes:

    Sukiyaki beef.
Thinly sliced beef, alongside vegetables and other ingredients, simmered in a shallow iron pot with the mixture of soy sauce, sugar, and mirin.

    Chicken teriyaki.
Slices of chicken meat broiled or grilled in a sweet soy sauce marinade (tare in Japanese). The tare is traditionally made by mixing and heating soy sauce, sake or mirin, and sugar or honey.

    Japanese style salad.
The fruits and vegetables are similar with other salads. Basically, Japanese-style salad dressings are made of soy sauce, vinegar, and vegetable oil or sesame oil. To arrange the flavor, other ingredients, such as grated onion, carrots, apples, ginger, and sesame are added.

It is a popular Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. Tempura was introduced to Japan in the mid-sixteenth century by early Potugese missionaries and traders.

    Fish marinate grill.
It is a grilled-fish dish marinated in unique Japanese seasonings.

After the cooking demo, Chef Hikaru Iwai will welcome all questions from the participants. Participants will get the dishes recipes and enjoy all-you-can-eat lunch in the colorful origami decorated restaurant. The cooking class will be ended with a door prize with delicious prizes.
