Gérard Boudot has taken Domaine Etienne Sauzet to new heights. The Sauzet name is now spoken in the same breaths as other greatest names in Burgundy. Being in and owning some of the most prestigious vineyards in Burgundy does not hurt either. And his 2006 vintage will be remembered as one of his best ever. Whilst the world anxiously awaits if he could better this lofty performance, the best thing to do is to enjoy his best grand cru fruits
It is not difficult to imagine how Emmanuel Rouget carries both the joyful inheritance of his famous uncle, the great Henri Jayer's vineyards, as well as the burden to live up to the old man's fame. In actual fact he hardly worries about such things. Amongst the locals, his name is already spoken with reverence so the future is bright with this man's domaine. What then can be better than to present his best wines from the possibly the greatest vintage the world has ever seen in this generation?
If there is one perennial icon in the German wine world, it has to be the estate of Egon Müller Scharzof. Year after year, his wines fetches the highest prices in the VDP auction, signifying the premium the market is willing to pay to gain his tightly allocated and exquisite wines. Taste his wines and one would understand why German Riesling was once priced higher than the top growths of Bordeaux. It can happen again. Such is the genius of Müller's wines and the complexity of this noble varietal.
