Banyan Tree Ungasan combines a tour of the local wet market with cooking classes so as to give guests a complete Balinese culinary experience against a scenic backdrop. Bali, the the island of Gods, is well known for its impeccable scenery of mountains and beaches, its mystical dance and cultures as well as the richness of the spices and other ingredients used in Indonesian cuisine. The herbal marinates of bebek betutu, the exotic satai lilit and the freshest of grilled seafood come to mind.

For guests who enjoy cooking such delectable local delights and exploring the traditional markets of Bali, Banyan Tree Ungasan has the ideal cooking class lined up every Wednesday. The program will start with an exciting excursion with a guide to the local wet market of Jimbaran, where guests can join the locals to buy the freshest seafood direct from the fishermen and to test their bargaining skills when purchasing produce like herbs and spices.

Then it is back to the resort for breakfast before starting the cooking class with our resident chef Ketut Sumerta who will share his knowledge in preparing and cooking traditional delicacies of Bali. The menu is market inspired, organic and highlights the small artisan producers of the region.

Chef Sumerta, known for being a patient teacher, says: “The classes are designed to cater to students of all skill levels, from novice cooks to advanced hobbyists. All recipes are easy to follow. We know guests want to share the joy of Balinese cooking with friends and families, so we will suggest substitute ingredients and other creative means for them to re-create the same tastes back home.”

The program will end with a luncheon at Bambu restaurant, where guests can taste their own creations with smiles of satisfaction. Each cooking class package starts from IDR 2,500,000 For reservations and enquiries, please call +62 361 3007000
