Dapur Sunda, The Humble Restaurant

Sundanese are famous for their friendly nature, easy to get along and love to laugh. The Kindness of Sundanese is always presented in every branches of this more than twenty years old restaurants.
Almost all the staffs from the front line to the back line intentionally “imported” from Sundanese parts of West Java. If you don’t believe it, just have conversation with them then you will find the thick sundanese accent.
Located in one of the prestige business district in the capital city of Indonesia surrounded by luxury office buildings and five star hotel doesn’t make this restaurant lose its identity. The same with the previous branches, the simple and humble image is still embraced by this restaurant that already has its branches throughout Jakarta. Its humble appearance can be looked by its simple interior. It doesn’t use a lot of decorative elements just the maximized use of wood and rattan for its natural looks and the walls are dominated by big mirrors to give its spacious feeling. This restaurant also provides Free Wifi facilities.
In one of the corners, you will find a small stage to entertain all the diners with live performance of sunda traditional music or acoustic pop music. I can imagine, supposing that I work in one of the building in this area, having lunch in Dapur Sunda, can be a instant escape from that never ending workload to fly to that natural nirvana, refreshing and calming.
Enjoying Fried Gurame Fish companied by Ulukutek Leunca, Jamur Kuping Stir-fry, Pencok, Fried Tempe, and also Baby Fish with nice hot cooked rice and hot chili paste while listening to kecapi and suling…. I can imagine myself having lunch in a saung (small bamboo house) in the middle of paddy field.
A glass of refreshing Goyobod Ice and a plate of very humble Fried Peuyeum can become a perfect dessert. Those two dessert ala kampong are curing the longing of my childhood back in my home town
All those simplicity (and the delicacy) of Sunda not only you can enjoy it in lunch or dinner in Dapur Sunda but now to provide all the consumers request, Dapur Sunda is also providing catering service, from meeting, gathering, birthday party, and even wedding. I have frequented Dapur Sunda a lot in the past when I was still very chilli-tolerant. My order will consist of ikan gurame cobek, sambal mangga, sambal tempe, sambal mentah, kangkung, ..., which will leave me sweating profusely. But I guess years abroad makes me lose my chilli-tolerance. The flavor here is authentic and the quality of ingredients used is the best! Not much oil is used in the cooking, unlike other traditional Indonesian food. It is no wonder the French and Japanese frequented this health-conscious joint. While the Indonesian staffs are generally very service-oriented, polite and helpful, the staffs here bring service to another level- one that is usually found only in 5-star hotels. i <3 DS.
